  1. DVD Tony DVD; Gotta keep up with the tech 🙂

Great game, loved that the away fans were in good voice. Almost (thats almost) felt sympathetic when they showed the kid in bottle-bottom glasses crying his eyes our, but then saw his shirt and got better.

I love the fact that we played a weakened side (arguably there isn’t a first 11 player in the starting line up), and we still took them apart.

  2. Tony, for the first time I really have to disagree with you.
I think the 47th yes was not that good in fact. 🙂 It should have been a definet YES!

  3. And I dont want to tell something about the ref review of this game but how on earth did the ref not send both players off with those penalties. I think he missed the chance for the highest score. But this will follow later on and now who cares.
When I have seen the game again.

Did you see the reaction of Jack when we scored the first goal. His fist showed that he is a real Gooner.

  4. What? How can you say that? I think you competely misread the match to be honest.

In my opinion that match was totally, completely and utterly one constant “YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS”.

Definately not a bunch of small “yes”‘s in my opinion.

    Harumph.

  5. And how about this from arsenal.com:

“Shall we make a DVD?’ sang the away fans – a reference to Tottenham’s habit of releasing collector’s editions of wins (or even draws) against their local rivals.

There’s no need of course. Arsenal fans can watch the whole game whenever they want on Arsenal TV Online”

    LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

  6. (YES) Great performance at “what heart lane” seeing the stadium empty out was priceless for everything else there’s master card …
Was dissapointed JET didnt get to come on at some stage would have been interesting to see the progress he is making.
Nice goal and work rate by lansbury.

  7. My own players scores:

Fabianski – 5 Sorry, not good enough. I think he has just one more chance, in the next round. Maybe not even one more.

Eboue – 8 Typical game from the best reserve right back in Europe.

Gibbs – 7 Let Lennon get in behind him once (Kos made a brilliant saving tackle) or else score would have been higher.

Djourou – 7 Started very poorly but grew in stature. Needed the run-out.

Koscielny – 9 Brilliant. Brilliant. Oh, and brilliant. Buy of the summer?

Denilson – 7 Busy. At the heart of everything we did. Also needed the run-out.

Wilshire – 8 Outstanding. Made some mistakes, BUT HE IS 18!!!!

    Nasri – 7 Excellent game.

Rosicky – 6 Not bad, just not great.

Lansbury – 6 Worked hard. Did fine.

Vela – 4 Poor. Extremely poor. It is one thing to come on after 75 minutes and terrorize a tiring defense, but……

Subs – Chamakh, AA and Clichy – 9 Did exactly what they were supposed to.

  8. Incidentally my team to play in this game was

    Fabianski

    Eastmond Djourou Miquel Gibbs

    Denilson

    Eboue Lansbury

    JET Sunu Vela

And apart from the ones I got wrong, the rest were spot on.

  9. A few points (and YES!):

    Fabianski and Djourou worry me.

Why weren’t 2 spurs players sent off?

Our away fans were outstanding tonight!

Anyone know the tune/lyrics of the new Samir Nasri song?

  10. WOW Koscielny is brilliant. I already love him. He played for himself and Djourou.

    oh and…

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH 😀 I can finally sleep again after Saturday. Eat that Redknapp.

  11. Tony, had to share a rare masterpieace by the media who got generous with Arsenal tonight. Below is the script from Telegraph

The speed of Arsenal’s movement and the quality of the passing, much of it first time, was so devastating that Spurs defenders were turned to stone. Angela Lansbury could have scored.

  12. always funny Tony. Dave please dont side track from the topic lol
On a serious note, I am over the moon. We hear it year in year out….. this is spurs season, they will over take arsenal blah blah blah….. they can just kiss my gluteus maximus

  13. Well, that was fun!

Saw the first goal on Arsenalist, very sweet moment when the kids (Jack, Kieran, Henri) are hugging.

Oh happy days ahead with this lot.

Sad JET didn’t get a run-out, Vela can’t do it on his own, it seems. Maybe in the next round, though, if we get a minnow at home.

Think this was tactically astute by Wenger, anything but a win would have been unacceptable after disappointing draw at Sunderland, got to keep the momentum of this side going, especially now Cesc is out, and four goals (FOUR!!) is ffffing fantastic! In particular, after the penalty miss on Saturday, great to have Nasri step up to score two. Way to go, Sami!

PS Is anyone of the current injury crop likely to be back for Belgrade? Bentner, Theo? Even though it was 4-1, we need more firepower (lol!)

  14. Mickey Mouse Cup
Sure, we played a stronger than usual in CC. Spurs have begun, for the first time ever, to realize that playing in the CL influence your team selection. However, look at at who didn’t start today – a pretty strong line up as well although 3 of them came on towards the end…:
    Almunia
    Sagna, Squillaci, Vermaelen, Clichy
    Fabregas, Song, Walcott
    v Persie, Chamakh, Arshavin

    Ramsey, Diaby, Bendtner, Frimpong

  15. in nigeria, its 12:15am n yet i cant sleep cos of d ‘joy’ i feel. Wen i finaly do, ive got a reason 2 smile in my dreams

  16. Playing on Tuesday night allowed AW to play more experienced players than he might have done otherwise. That and the fact that we only play WBA this weekend.

I think we now know Squillaci is going to be preferred as TV’s partner. However, both will have to be on top form because Koscielny has been superb.

The fact that Koscielny, Denilson and Wilshire played also suggests to me that TV and Diaby are both well on course to be fit for the weekend.

  17. I tell you what!

That linesman did his best to screw us over twice but what amazing character to rise above it.
Well done to the ref for both pens.

I think somebody should explain the concept of “scale” to Van deVart.
Somebody should also explain to the WHL crowd that REAL fans stay to the end.

The gulf in class between our kids and their kids is titanic.
    STILL UNBEATEN!!!!!!!

It is unfortunate that after such a night, Fabianski will no doubt be held accountable for a goal that the linesman was culpable for but you can bet that this is the area that the D&G brigade through the AAA Blogs will focus on.

My favourite moment was when they showed the Spurs fan crying.

    50 years in our shadow.

  18. Tony
I see what you mean about getting to the point quickly… staying on the point… and finishing with a flourish as impactful as the opening line.

I sit at the feet of the mastr.

  19. Superb analysis Tony. I particularly like the artistic use of the capital Y’s in the diagonal syle of the Venetian Letter Masters during the Machiavellian period.

  20. cum on arsenal, these spuds will always b in our shadow, wat a performance and dnt u think manone shud becum our 2nd choice keeper after yet another blunder 4rm flopanski.

  21. arsenal ma dizzle ma lizzle ma bizzle.Am proud to be a gunnerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  22. Terrence – sorry, but I think Fabianski SHOULD be held accountable for the goal. Of course the linesman blew it, but Keane’s shot was scuffed. It should have been saved. Fabianski got down and had the shot covered. It should have been saved. Period.

I think it has now reached the point where AW might just give Cheseny the no.2 jersey and banish Fabianski to the deepest, darkest part of a black hole.

I just cannot see him ever rebuilding his Arsenal career anymore.

  23. It’s not too late for that boy. He can save himself the pain, just throw his shirt away and take on the red and white of Arsenal. Or he can experience the shame, the hurt and the disappointment for the rest of his life. Tough choice, isn’t it?

  24. For the goal we conceded: he got a hand to it, but it seemed that the shot had simply too much spin and rolled over it. But who cares about that, honestly? We beat that other North London club 4 – 1 at their “stadium”, this is a night of celebration!

  25. Where are d spurs fans who keep creeping up in Arsenal blogs saying shit about our beloved club…..back to d game it was a superb performance ,d only weak link was fabianski.we are still unbeaten and I pray we suffer no more injuries because I know we got some titles to win this season, keep d faith…love from Nigeria.

  26. Yes!! 🙂

Though it was tough in the second half, we clearly outplayed them in extra time. And it was suprising to see such an experienced side on the pitch for a carling cup game. But all’s well that ends well. Yeah, fabianski still did poorly for conceding the goal but rest of the time he was better than average. He held on to balls and crosses with confidence.

By the way, what was with those long shots from Arsenal?? i never seen us shooting so frequently from long ranges. We spoiled a couple of chances bcoz of that. I think the player who shoots the best long shots in our team is probably Arshavin. But it was Denilson, Eboue n Lansbury who took so many shots at the goal. Also i was surprised that JET wasn’t used. He should had a shot at it. I believe he would’ve performed better than Vela.

  27. 🙂 hehe!!

Chill out lads we played like footballing demons in the first half, but actually created little in the way of shooting opportunities even though they may as well have sat down crossed legged awaiting the whistle!

OK we played them practically to tears but we scored a single goal, then Fabianski let the equaliser in – I would have been much happier with a 1-0 to be honest.

OK so 4 5 or 6 nil would have made me YES YES YES YES as you did, but we have to remember they have loads of injuries (we used that same excuse last season) and until we got our pens it was 1-1.

Basically I don’t want to say we got lucky because we were far and away the superior team; I just hope that the confident buzz this result generates is not the silver lining on a very dark cloud that nobody is noticing … We need to be more clinic infront of goal to win this competition. And for God sake Wenger just get rid of Fabianksi he is a good lad and that – but I am a better goalkeeper by far and I play left mid!

Nasri, Arshavin, Wilshere, Gibbs, Kossy, EBOUE (Soo glad the fans love him now I always thought he was a funny little guy) pretty much everybody else was awesome; let down by one defensive switch off and a goalkeeper with zero reflexes.

4-1 though at the Lane, I will take that and hope that when we meet them in the league; that we do em a goodun like 4-0 or something …. then take them back to the Grove and smash them a new one 😀 Lol

All around good performance, hoping to see even more because I KNOW that however amazing the performance was there is so much more to come!

    Up the gooners happy days.

    Fight Art Tame? (Weak Club)
    Bit Part Lame? (Weak Players)
Slight Wart Pains? (Sexually Transmitted? Lol)

There are so many ways to call a spade a spade in football 😀

  28. It must have wound up the Spurs though on the way home me and my friend got attacked by 4 Spurs boys, so that wasn’t pleasant but it’s good to know we pissed them off some!!

    Weaklings 🙂

  29. Dark Prince, the boys are young, they want glory. What better chance at glory than to score a 45 yard screamer in the local derby eh? 😛

Also, I don’t think a good goalkeeper would ever let a shot like that in, especially when he got both hands to it.

    YES 😀

  30. I was in a very dark place from the time of the Keane “goal” to the time of the first penalty. The same linesman that missed Keane being offside also gave two offsides against us when we would have had one on ones with the goalie.

I was also upset about not getting the Lansbury penalty. However, that probably effected the decision to give us the soft penalty for the foul on Nasri.

Walter, what is the rule on red cards for being the last man? Weren’t both penalties also red cards?

After we went 2-1 up, I left the dark place. I went to a place that became progressively lighter. I am now indoors, but nevertheless am wearing sunglasses.

  31. @Common Sensei

For a Goalkeeper with zero reflexes, Fabianski reacted nicely to the shot from Keane in Extra Time.

  32. i have to disagree…it should be YEAH……ooooooooo……
but nasri played 300 minutes in 7 days, chamakh and arshavin too played in all the 3 matches….is boss pushing players too far???or is it just me being negetive??…
damn, gibbs injured, hope he gets all right soon…

  33. Great analysis Tony, butI think you misses YES! in the end 😉
I’m really proud of the team and our AWAY-FANS. They out-sung homefans most of the time. Also songs like “Shall we make a DVD” and that song about Fire was fun when the stadium was getting lot of empty seats. At least our songs are quite nice and not borderline crimes (assaults like some teams do for Arsene)

  34. Fabianski may well have reacted to a shot in extra time, but as far as I can remember – the last 5 games where he has played 90 mins he has made at least one massive error per game.

This time he was the lucky one because he had so very little to do, and we were fortunate to get the two pens in extra time. Had their equaliser been kept out, as it should have been I have no doubt we would have racked up a cricket score within the 90.

I have nothing against the guy but considering all the stick Almunia got, people can see why I defended him now??

He would have saved that easily, Fabianski cannot handle pressure, he was too tense you can tell on the reply of their goal, he basically ball-watches THEN manages to get down to it and let’s it through his hands and doesn’t manage to get behind it properly.

    Not anywhere near good enough!

  35. For me seeing the Sp*rs player laying around and being massaged frantically going to extra time: Priceless, our boys were just chatting and having fun. And then about three of their play had cramps during extra time.

Awesome win! and a Big YES YES YES

  36. LRV – in case you are still there – nothing is being done to censor you – far from it, always welcome your thoughts. When I saw your comment this morning I checked and nothing of yours had gone into the box where dodgy comments are put. Can’t explain it, but believe me, nothing is being done to put you on hold

  37. Bird that was one of points I think proves who are better team. They couldn’t even get though extra time without bit of rest…
